Rick Grimes
Carl Grimes
Character Comparison
The two characters I am comparing are Rick Grimes and Carl Grimes. Both characters are introduced early on in The Walking Dead, but Rick is is the first one you meet. Throughout The Walking Dead, they changed immensely, and they developed with the world around them.
The first character, in the beginning is innocent and completely oblivious to what is going on. He is always trying to make the best decisions for his family and his group. Through out The Walking Dead, his family and his group start to question his decisions, fearing that he is becoming crazy. The truth is that the world is getting crazy and that everyone else is becoming crazy with it, as he explains in a lengthy speech after being assaulted by a close friend. Rick was an innocent man until he had to go through all the stress and pain of the world.
The other character is Carl Grimes. Carl grimes, is the son of Rick Grimes and is mentioned by Rick in the beginning of the novel. Carl is introduced after Rick goes searching for his family in Atlanta. Carl, over time, becomes more like his dad, at a lot slower pace and becomes a better person overall, because he does not have to go through as much stress as his dad. As The Walking Dead goes on, Carl becomes more of a man, and shows his worth to the group. He is always there to pick people up after a disaster. Carl, like his dad, is being shaped by the world, but more positively than his dad.
Carl and Rick are both very similar and they are both shaped by the people and world around them. Carl is a lot more sane than Rick because he does not have to go through all the hardships that Rick has to go through. Although, Carl does become a lot more crazy, but compared to the world and Rick, he is normal.
